Why You Should Get Back into Reading

Many of us do not read enough and that is a fact. We are not talking about scrolling through your Facebook timeline and reading what your friends and family are up to. When was the last time you took time out to pick up a book and read it? For most, the answer will probably be a very long time ago. Books have been replaced by technology and turning pages has been replaced by scrolling. If this sounds a lot like you, here are just a few of the many reasons why you should get back into reading.

Socializing

Whilst this may sound odd, reading opens many opportunities to meet people. Whether this is in your local book shop or by joining a book club. If you are seeking some intellectual conversation over your favorite books, joining a book club is a great way to socialize and meet like-minded people. Reading is also inspiring for those who want to become writers and begin taking creative writing classes.

Good for Your Mind

Reading is extremely good for exercising the mind. Whilst many of us focus on exercising our body, the mind is just as important and the less we use it, the more we will suffer from concentration issues and memory loss as we age.  Be a Role Model

Many children prefer video game consoles over becoming lost in a book, but if they see you reading from an early age, they are more likely to pick up reading as a hobby. If you want the best for your children, being a role model in terms of reading is a great way to ensure that they enjoy reading too. This will help them in school and if they begin reading at home too, they will be able to pick up reading and writing skills faster. You can start reading to them from any age; the earlier they get to play with books and interact with them, the better.

Relaxation

Reading is a great way to relax and lose yourself in another reality. Whilst many of us use electronics to do this, this has actually been shown to interrupt sleeping patterns and could even be worse for your mental health, especially if you feel addicted to your cell phone. Grabbing a hot bath, a nice book, and the perfect book candles ensures that you can relax without any distractions from the outside world. Reading before bed is also a great way to fall asleep if you are struggling to do so.

Reading has so many great benefits and it does not need to cost a lot. You can buy many books second-hand in book shops or online, or you can even swap books with family and friends. There has never been a better time to put down your cell phone and get lost in a book.
